If you are looking restaurant that serving kobe beef, 511 Kobe Beef Kaiseki is one of the highest recommendations that I find the review in the internet, even some of my contacts in Tokyo keep recommending this place whenever they want to have kobe beef dining.
The place is kinda tricky to find if you are first time exploring Tokyo, as you need to keep your eye open to find the restaurant, as the sign not really outstanding from outside, but when I ask around, people seems to know the place and even offer us to guide into the place.
When we enter the place, there are many variety of menu and style that we can choose, even you can order a-la cart menu, but since it is our first time, we are going for full course menu of kobe beef in japanese cooking style, as I believe Japan has best way to cook such delicacy without destroying the original taste.
This is our entry course, Grilled kobe beef and sea bream with onion puree. I really never taste such a great taste like this dish, the tenderness of the beef is outstanding, you actually would not required to chew a lot of time as if the beef melt into your mouth. Sea bream taste is quite outstanding itself while eating with onion puree.
Here is our second dish, seasonal appetiser. It is all in bite-size and refreshing to mouth, at first I thought it is some kind of sorbet to ‘reset’ our taste before we enjoy another taste of Kobe beef again.
Our third dish is Domyoji and kobe-beef in dashi soup. Dashi is common ingredient that you can found almost everywhere in Japan, especially if you do like miso soup, part of the soup often put dashi as the base, and by combining dashi and beef, it brings out the meat taste stronger without spoiling the taste.
I am not really a fan on frying such a great meat as if it is done poorly, the meat would lose the juicy taste, but this dish able to maintain the juicy part, at the same time the tofu skin giving crunchy feeling when you bite it.
This dish really a big surprise to me, I was expected the taste will be similar with the third dish since it also contain dash-soup, but in fact it is quite different, and the bamboo shoot taste is fresh, plus all these ingredient will bring another taste experience of the kobe beef.
When they serve this, I was digging where is the kobe beef, the waiters seems caught on what I am doing, and he said this one is to refresh my taste bud before the main course coming. I was really enthusiast on the next dish, but for this dish, it is kinda above average for cabbage salad, not that special.
This is the main dish, that I had been waiting for, hearth-baked kobe beef steak. it is cooked to preserve the best tenderness and taste. It is really no wonder why the price is ridiculously expensive, as it is way above best beef that the world can offer. I really love the taste, juicy, tenderness, and you must enjoy this without salt and pepper. If you had some extra $ do get best wine pairing for this dish, then your experience will be complete.
This is the closing dish. This dish is to preserve your after-taste of kobe beef.
The dessert to close my outstanding journey. The waiter told us that there are no more kobe-beef in this dessert and we are all laugh because of that. This place really have great service, ambience, as well as the taste.
In summary, with this kobe beef set menu, you will be enjoying every part of the cow (as the waiter will share the story which part of the kobe cow that they serve).
Overall, this outstanding place worth three stars, and if you are visiting Tokyo, do comes out a budget to have your dine here. It is something worth that you might be putting into your bucket list.
