When I walk around mid valley to look a place to have lunch, couple of options comes in my mind, then I got craving for Korean food, which the soup based food and spicy that comes in my mind immediately. I decide to look for Korean food at Midvalley. I found Gogung Korean restaurant from Foursquare suggestion, and that is why I give it a try despite need to walk from Midvalley to The Garden.
After I check some review regarding couple of Korean restaurant, I decide to go to Gogung Korean restaurant at the garden. The place is very easy to spot, as they have such a flashy entrance with clear restaurant name on top of it. The place is decorated beautifully, if you like bbq, they do serve bbq as well, of course with Korean style. When I read the review, some highly recommended this place simply because the food pretty much authentic and they are doing the right thing to bring out Korean ambient and mood into dining area, you will feel like you are entering some restaurant in Korea, where people will greet you with some Korean phrase to welcome you.
I like their rice cake, the taste is same as the one I ate in Korea, and it is less spicy version as my father could not eat as spicy as me. The pancakes is outstanding as well, although it is the easiest to make, but to have ‘Korean taste’ is not something easy to make. The other two dishes is slightly different from what I had in Korea, but it is very close to the point it is hard to differentiate if you are not very sensitive towards the taste.
One thing that why Korean restaurant is outstanding compare with other restaurant or even among one another is how many different type of side dishes that the restaurant can provide. Gogung offer unlimited refill of any side dishes, in fact I had refill more than 5 times and the waiters keep giving me the side dishes in friendly manner (unlike some restaurant limit how many you can refill), which translate you can do Ssambab much as you like. I was trained to eat Korean dish in Ssambab way, as you can get unique flavour in your mouth, and only one thing that I am still can’t mix my Ssambab with raw garlic. Korean people loves to eat raw garlic.
Overall, the experience that I had with Gogung Korean restaurant in the garden midvalley is good, the service is good, food comes pretty fast, just that the kimchi can be improved. This place is worth to mention for those who wants to taste authentic taste of Korean food.
