My wife asking me to come to her family dinner, Pantai Seafood restaurant, at Kampung Sungai Ara. I come with a bit high expectation as I am really particular with seafood. When talking about seafood, I have high expectation for freshness and texture. It takes high skill in cooking when you handling seafood to maintain their freshness and texture. From what my wife told me, it is quite good place to have good food.
When I arrived there, I like the decoration of the place. They have open space, normal table, or you can book a room to have privacy, which including karaoke machine where you can sing to your heart content. Seriously it is not bad for seafood restaurant, which I found out that they are part of unique seafood group of restaurants.
Our first dish is black tofu with mushroom. I was told it is part of Pantai Seafood speciality dish, hand-made black tofu. It is rare to find black tofu, where it commonly made with black bean. It is rich of antioxidant so the more you eat, the better for your body is. My first bite, I know that this black tofu has refrigerated for quite a while, and I salute for the chef to be able bringing good taste out of it.
Our next in the menu is pork ribs. I am actually surprise seeing this as commonly big restaurant does not serve lard and pork. It cooked with marmite sauce and potato chips. Yes, it is really creative to put potato chips into this dish. The ribs are tasty and finger liking good.
Next on menu is green vegetables with dried squid. I like the vegetables (I have no idea what the english name is), it crunchy and saltiness just nice. Just that I don’t think it is good idea to put dried squid on top of it. Nothing synergy or uniqueness comes out of it. Just having two tastes that quite distinguish when eating separately and together.
Salted egg fried prawn. This is one of my favourite dish. It still have the sweetness of the prawn. The salted egg proportion just nice, just that I wish they clean the prawn properly as we suppose to chew whole things first.
Tilapia fish with curry. Now this dish is nothing special. I don’t think it is fresh, beside that it is just normal curry fish probably commonly can found in everywhere. Nothing much that I can say about this dish.
Overall, Pantai Seafood at Kampung Sungai Ara is worth to mention, I want to give another try for this restaurant simply because I did not order their speciality. As this dinner is paid by Crystal family, so can’t demand much since it is not out of my pocket. I want to try their crab, and prawn cooked in different style. Obviously the pork ribs and black tofu is the menu that I will order again. I personally recommend this place for family dinner, and book their room for unlimited karaoke session.
